Falling
At Hayes, we understand that log value starts with falling. We plan and execute cost-effective, productive, safe and fully compliant falling jobs that meet our customers’ log manufacture specifications and deliver the highest log value.
We work with our customers to develop cutting specifications that optimize utilization and allowable waste. We plan our falling work to enhance the yarding phases and to meet best forest practices. In all of our falling activities, safety is the most important part of the work day.
We provide falling management services for ground based and helicopter yarding customers. We carefully manage our falling sub-contractors and are often called upon to assist in the management of our customers’ own falling crews or sub-contractors.

How We Deliver the Highest Log Value

We approach each job with deliberate planning and execution built on the belief that:

• Log value starts with the first cut. The faller
must plan for value from the stump.
• Customer preferred lengths and other cutting
specifications are critical to mill operations.
• Yarding is enhanced by good falling. We always
lay the wood out for the yarding crews.
• Meeting Forest Practices and safety
requirements is not a choice but
  a commitment.

Services
Our falling supervision includes:

• Working with our customers to develop falling
specifications, which are optimized to their
  unique needs.
• Carefully communicating falling specifications,
Forest Practices and safety requirements to each
  faller before work begins.
• Regularly monitoring falling quality and
productivity against the specification. In many
instances, we use qualified scalers and graders
to assist and supervise the work in progress
  on the hillside.
• Providing helicopter support to remote settings.
