Helicopter Yarding
Hayes
provides cost-effective helicopter yarding services with our fleet of
three Sikorsky S-61N “Shortsky” logging helicopters and several Bell
206 B support helicopters.
Extensive Experience
Our
dedicated team of managers, pilots, engineers and hill crew has
extensive helicopter yarding experience in all terrains, timber types
and geographic regions. As a comprehensive forest services provider and
not just an aviation company, we understand that log value is critical
to our customers’ profitability.
We work
intensively to ensure that falling, yarding and utilization
specifications are achieved. Our customers further benefit from our
ability to provide all of the additional required phases to complete
any helicopter logging project.
Our helicopter operations are fully accredited under a
Canadian Operating Certificate for the commercial operation of
helicopters.
Full Range of Services
We provide our customers with fully mobile and self-sufficient
helicopter logging operations, and we are fully equipped for both land
and water (barge) based jobs.
Hayes combines the use of both a conventional choker
system and a heli grapple system to optimize the productivity and
utilization of our helicopters.

at our 20,320 square foot repair facility in Duncan, British Columbia,
the fleet is accompanied by a full range of support equipment.

Systems Support
Fleet maintenance is monitored daily by our custom Hayes Preventative
Maintenance System. Maintenance work orders are automatically generated
and tracked based on equipment utilization and fleet experience. Our
systems also track fuel, line and attachment inventories and other
operating and repair supplies as well as tracking fleet availability
and maintenance trends.
The Hayes Production Management Information System records
and fully reconciles crew and equipment productivity to payroll and
scale information for each job on a daily basis. This data facilitates
timely feedback to our customers, managers and operating crews.
Forest Practices Compliance
Hayes operators, landing and rigging crews have outstanding records and
extensive experience working in operations that comply with the Forest
Practices Code.
The Forest Practices Code, customer requirements, job
safety and other standards are carefully communicated to each crew
member for each job through our Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and
Job Safety Breakdown (JSB). Every crew member signs off to evidence
their understanding of the instructions for every job. Managers
complete an SOP follow up checklist at least weekly.
